Administration
Mrs. Jan Altevogt, Principal
The 2011-2012 school year begins my 27th year in education. My first 13 years were enjoyably spent in the classroom. The remaining 14 years have been dedicated to Catholic Administration, serving as either an Assistant Principal or Principal within the Archdiocese of Denver's Catholic Schools. This is my fourth year at STM Catholic and my first year as Principal.
I received my BS degree from West Virginia State University; my MA from Colorado Christian University and, as a life-long learner, continue to take graduate level classes in the field of Administration.
My husband and I moved to Colorado from Columbus, Ohio 15 years ago. We have 5 children, 9 grandchildren and a Springer Spaniel named Freckles. My family is my top priority, but I also enjoy cooking, reading, golfing and traveling.
It has been my privilege to serve our Lord each day. I feel very grateful to be a part of STM Catholic and have witnessed the generosity and kindness of this vibrant community. Truly, I am blessed.
Mrs. Barbara Markulik, Middle School Assistant Principal
This year marks my 18th year at St. Thomas More Catholic School and my 28th year of combined teaching and administrative experience, all in Catholic schools.
My education credentials include a BS in Elementary Education, Cleveland State University; MA with a focus on Middle School Education, University of Northern Colorado; and studies in the Administrator Licensure Program, University of Phoenix in Denver. I also hold advanced certification in the Archdiocese of Denver’s Catechetical School program for parish catechists and Catholic school educators.
My husband and I grew up in the same town in southwestern Pennsylvania and attended high school together; we parented four children and now have ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. I especially enjoy family time, reading (professional articles and novels), and traveling.
Asked what I enjoy about my job at STM Catholic…simply everything! It is indeed a pleasure to work in such a great school environment with our wonderful students, parents, teachers, and staff. It is also a joy and privilege to work with our parish priests and church staff. God has been so generous to me, in my personal life and in my professional life, and I am grateful for His many blessings.
Mr. Robert Sickles, Elementary Assistant Principal
I have been involved with Catholic education almost my entire life. I attended Sacred Heart Elementary and St. Mary's High School in Colorado Springs. I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1981 in American Studies and joined Holy Cross Associates to teach and coach at St. Louis Bertrand in East Oakland, CA.
I came to Denver in 1985 and taught middle school Math and Religion at St. James Catholic School for nine years. After earning a Masters Degree and Principal's License at the University of Denver, I served as the assistant principal at St. Vincent de Paul School for thirteen yers. My most recent assignment was that of principal at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, where I served for four years.
I feel that through Catholic education, I have the opportunity not only to prepare students for life, but to prepare them for eternal life! I look forward to getting to know and to serve the STM community.
