Situations like the coronavirus (and all of its ripple effects) is when the rubber meets the road in the spiritual life.
And to be honest, it’s the perfect time to put what we’re learning into practice.
Now more than ever we need to double-down on our prayer lives. We need to intercede for those around us. We need to get as close to the Lord as possible so that we can be filled with His peace and pass it on to others.
That interior peace is exactly what the world needs right now…and it’s exactly what Christ promises, no matter the circumstances:
“My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give it to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (Jn 14:27).
Rest assured, this crisis will pass.
And when it ends, please don’t let up. Please don’t take your foot off the spiritual gas. New trials and sufferings are sure to come.
It’s the human condition.
So we have to stay spiritually strong. We have to build our spiritual muscle. And not just for ourselves. People are going to need others to show them the way.
They’re going to need strong, spiritually mature Catholics to help them navigate the way through this tumultuous world.
So let’s continue to grow in our understanding and practice of the interior life so as to help ourselves – and the whole world – experience God’s transformative peace. As Christ himself said, it is the “one thing” necessary.
God bless you and know that you remain in my prayers.
Your Brother in Christ,
