LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK

RELIGION – In Lesson 18, we learned that Advent is the season in which we prepare for Christ’s birthday and his future coming. We learned that the Church year of prayer and worship is called the liturgical year and that Advent begins the Church year. Advent is a time when we get our hearts ready to remember the birth of Jesus. The color for Advent is purple.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH: Purity – keeping your soul free of sin.

SAINT OF THE MONTH: St. Dominic Savio

MATH – We continued Chapter 5 – Shapes and Patterns. This week we combined and separated plane and solid shapes. We identified plane and solid shapes in our classroom, and used plane shapes to identify, extend, and create patterns. Vocabulary included: rectangular prism, cube, sphere, cone, cylinder, pyramid, stack, slide, roll, and repeating patterns. We took the Chapter 5 Assessment on Friday and they did a great job!

LANGUAGE ARTS – In Unit 4, Lesson 3 we isolated sounds in words and generated words that contain y, spelled y and long a. Our Read Aloud stories this week were Just Listen and The Tale of Lighting and Thunder. Reading skills that we worked on included: clarifying, asking and answering questions. We learned that the words a, an, and the are special words called articles. We read decodable books 59-61 and they went home daily. I hope they continue to read to read them to you at home!

SOCIAL STUDIES: Postcards from all around the United States are coming in. Thank you so much for helping us with this fun project! Our Gingerbread people are traveling far!

SCIENCE: We learned about animals and how they get their needs met in their habitats.

OTHER NEWS and NOTES

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: We are practicing a lot for our Christmas Program. The children have been working really hard and this year’s show is going to be GREAT! The children will be performing the program for the school on Friday, December 14 at 1:30 PM. The performance for families is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM; but we are asking that the children be in their classrooms at 6:00 PM. Hope you enjoy the show! Remember the kids should be dressed in dressy black and white for that final program.

POLAR EXPRESS DAY: This year our Polar Express Day will be held on Friday, December 21. All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to wear their favorite Christmas pajamas that day. Please note school will end that day at 12:00 noon NOT 10:30 am as previously noted on the school calendar.
