LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK
RELIGION – We learned that God the Son became man to teach us about God and to show us how to act as images of God. Jesus also came to show us how to love God and he invited the Apostles to help him. Jesus spent a lot of time teaching the Apostles. He asked them to go to all the countries in the world to teach people about God.
MATH –We learned to use fact families to solve number sentences. We practiced adding by grouping numbers into a group of 10. We also used number bonds to help us add. Vocabulary this week included: group, same, doubles fact, and doubles plus one.
LANGUAGE ARTS – In Unit 6, Lesson 3 we isolated sounds in words and generated words that contain i, spelled igh, y, and _ie. Our Read Aloud stories this week were A trip to Peru and Let’s Go to School. Reading skills that we worked on included main idea and details, sequence and plot. We learned that adverbs describe verbs, by telling how, when or whereand that many adverbs end in -ly. However some adverbs answer when or where. We learned that when writing, adverbs can make our writing more interesting. We read decodable books 79-81 and they went home on daily. I hope they continue to read them to you at home!
SCIENCE – We were scientists on Friday! We added salt and sugar to ice cubes to observe which ice cubes melted the fastest. Before we began our experiment, most of the children thought that the sugar would melt the ice cubes faster that the salt. They were surprised with their results!
