LOOKING BACK AT LAST

RELIGION – We learned why Ash Wednesday is a special day for the Church. We learned that the ashes used on Ash Wednesday are made from the palm branches blessed the preceding year for Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord. We discussed that the most important time of the year for the Church is Easter, and that Lent is the time that we prepare for Easter.

We concentrated on the First Week of Lent. We discussed and answered the question: “How does celebrating Lent help us to get ready for Easter?”

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH: Respect – recognizing the dignity of all people

SAINT OF THE MONTH: Saint Jeanne Jugan

MATH – We finished Chapter 10, Weight and took the assessment test on Thursday. As usual, the children did a great job! They are such hard workers!

LANGUAGE ARTS – In Unit 8, Lesson 3 we isolated sounds in words and generated words that contain aw spelled eugh and ough and oi spelled oi and oy. Our Read Aloud story this week was How Animals Move. Reading skills that we worked on included genre review and clarifying. We learned that a contraction is a short version of two words. We read decodable books 100-102 and they went home last week. I hope they continue to read them to you at home!

SCIENCE – We continued our unit on Matter and had fun with activities based on the three forms of matter.
