Mrs. Cincilla’s News and Notes Week of 10.7.19

LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK

RELIGION – In Lesson 7 we learned that Jesus Christ, the second person of the Blessed Trinity, who became man, is our Savior. We learned the God the Son became man to teach us about God and to show us how to act as images of God. We discussed that Mary is Jesus’ mother and that Joseph was Jesus’ father on earth.

Virtue of the Month: Reverence: showing deep respect for God

Saint of the Month: Saint Hyacinth

MATH – We began Chapter 4, “Subtraction Facts to 10”. We learned different strategies, such as the take-away concept, number bonds, counting on, and counting back to identify and learn subtraction facts.

LANGUAGE ARTS – In Unit 2, Lesson 3 we isolated sounds in words and generated words that contain the sound of j, spelled dje. We also learned to blend, spell and read words that contain the u and z sounds. Our Read Aloud stories this week were No Wolves Allowed by Sheila Sweeny and Far Away Friends by Tamara Andrews. Reading skills that we worked on included: making and confirming predictions, main idea and details. We learned about action verbs and helping verbs. We learned that action verbs tell us what action is performed by the person or thing named in the sentence, and that sometimes action verbs need help from other verbs to show when the action happens. These verbs are called helping verbs. We read decodable books 29-33 and they went home daily. I hope they continue to read them to you at home!

FIRE SAFETY WEEK – Kindergarten and First grade students learned all about fire safety last week. Thank you Mr. Creviston for teaching us how to stay safe!
