Mrs. Cincilla’s News and Notes Week of 11/18/19

LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK

RELIGION – In Chapter 12, we learned that Jesus wanted to teach everyone about God and so Jesus invited the Apostles to help him begin the Church. We discussed how Jesus is with us through the Church’s teachings, sacraments, and other works of love.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH: Stewardship – Returning your time, talent, and treasure to God.

SAINT OF THE MONTH: St. Elizabeth of Hungary

MATH – We continued Chapter 5 – Shapes and Patterns. This week we combined and separated plane and solid shapes. We identified plane and solid shapes in our classroom, and used plane shapes to identify, extend, and create patterns. Vocabulary included: rectangular prism, cube, sphere, cone, cylinder, pyramid, stack, slide, roll, and repeating patterns. We took the Chapter 5 Assessment on Friday and they did a great job!

LANGUAGE ARTS – In Unit 4, Lesson 3 we isolated sounds in words and generated words that contain y, spelled y and long a. Our Read Aloud stories this week were Just Listen and The Tale of Lighting and Thunder. Reading skills that we worked on included: clarifying, asking and answering questions. We learned that the words a, an, and the are special words called articles. We read decodable books 59-62 and they went home daily. I hope they continue to read to read them to you at home!

SOCIAL STUDIES: We began Chapter 4: Places to Live. We learned about various land and water habitats for animals. We learned that natural homes for animals are called habitats. For example, the natural home for a fish is a river or sea. Similarly, a natural home for a parrot is a tree where it can make a nest. We discussed how plants and animals live together.
