LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK
RELIGION – In Lesson 15 we learned that when we are at Mass we celebrate Jesus’ sacrifice of love. We learned that Jesus taught us that He is the Bread of Life and that if we eat Jesus’ flesh and drink His blood we will have eternal life. And so, at the Last Supper, Jesus gave us the Eucharist, His true Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, as a way to be with us always. The Eucharist is spiritual food that nourishes our souls. The Eucharist changes us when we receive it and gives us a share in Christ’s mission.
MATH – We finished Chapter 9, Length, and will take the Chapter 9 test on Monday.
LANGUAGE ARTS – In Unit 7, Lesson 3 we isolated sounds in words and generated words that contain oo spelled oo, u and ue. Our Read Aloud stories this week were Protective Plants and Fruits and Good Health. Reading skills that we worked on included genre review and background information. We learned that adjectives are describing words that tell about a noun or pronoun. We read decodable books 90 and 91 and they went home. I hope they continue to read them to you!
SCIENCE – We continued to talk about how important the Sun is for life on Earth. We became UV detectives this week using UV-sensitive beads. We made bracelets with the white beads and then went outside to see them change into their true colors! It was a great demonstration to show the power of the sun, and that UV is still in the air even when it’s cloudy.
OTHER NEWS and NOTES
SECOND STEP: In Second Step we are wrapping up our unit on Emotion Management. However, many of our little ones could benefit from continued practice with this concept, especially in the area of worry/anxiety. Therefore, Mrs. Poniatowski will be extending lessons on this topic over the next several weeks. Materials coming home will look different than what you are used to, but I encourage you to talk with your child about them just the same. Please reach out to Mrs. Poniatowski with any questions you may have.
VALENTINE’S DAY: Please send in Valentine’s Day cards to class on Thursday, February 13. Watch for a letter coming home on Monday! We will decorate Valentine’s Day bags in class! If you have any questions, please email me. Thank you!
Our Valentine’s Day party will be held on Friday, February 14th from 10:15-11:15. We will be attending Mass on the 14th too.
