LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK
RELIGION – In Chapter 3, Grace and Angels we learned that grace helps us to act as images of God and to enter heaven. We discussed that angels are made in the image of God and that they are made to love him and other persons. We learned that angels are persons. They have minds and wills, but they do not have bodies. They praise God and act as God’s messengers and our guardians.
Virtue of the Month: Faith – believing in God and all He has revealed
Saint of the Month: Saint Martha
MATH – We used connecting cubes to find number bonds to 10. We learned new math vocabulary words: part, whole, and number bond.
READING – In Unit 1, Lesson 2 we isolated sounds in words and generated words with initial and final d, n and h sounds. Our Read Aloud stories this week were A New Friend at School by Tanya Anderson and The Plant Monitor by Michele Boston. Reading skills that we worked on included: comprehension, sequence, setting, and predicting. We learned that one way authors help readers understand a story is by telling them what causes an event to happen. See if your child can tell you what happened to the plant in the story The Plant Monitor. We read decodable books 9-13 and they went home daily. I hope they continue to read them to you at home!
SPELLING – On Friday we took our spelling test just for practice. They did a fantastic job! Please continue to practice our weekly spelling words on the SpellingCity website. It really makes a difference!
SOCIAL STUDIES – We continued to discuss how we depend on people in our community, and learned why people move from one place to another.
